Match Details: ICC World T20, Match 2, HK vs NEP, March 16, 2014, Dhaka.

Start Time: 1930 Local, 1330 GMT, 1900 IST.The International Cricket Council must be c

omplimented for having the foresight to provide opportunities to the Associate nations to compete on the world stage. The goal of the Cricket’s governing body to spread the game far and wide is indeed commendable.

Countries like Hong Kong and Nepal, the teams who will be locking horns in the Qualifying game in Group A, wouldn’t have dreamt of taking the field with millions watching them. Understandably, the players will be unknown commodities for viewers who have watched top-flight cricket but there will be eyes looking for some raw talent. The ‘minnows’ will be soaking up the atmosphere in Bangladesh and giving it their best shot.

The quality of cricket might not be of the highest order but the whole purpose of the inclusion of the Associate nations is to take them through their best possible ‘learning curve’. The Captain of Hong Kong – Jamie Atkinson, sounded confident of his team’s chances in the ICC World T20 in his press conference. Atkinson is a talented wicket-keeper/batsman with a bit of experience playing for Warwickshire in the English County. Majority of the Hong Kong players are Pakistan-born and look exciting. With the required guidance and exposure, Hong Kong could improve as time goes on. Aizaz Khan, another talented cricketer will look to make some heads turn. Munir Dar and Najeeb Amar are the senior statesmen in the team – both aged 42, and will be helping the youngsters in the side showcase their talent.

The Nepal Skipper, Paras Khadka spoke about the immense fan following in Nepal for the cricket team and said this was a dream come true for him and his young side. The Asian conditions could assist Nepal to an extent as most of the team members would have grown up playing in similar conditions. However, playing under lights will be a task for them as Associate nations do not get enough opportunities of playing day-night games. Rahul Vishwakarma, a left handed all-rounder who has performed consistently for Nepal, is spoken of highly.
